Summary
WFS Tracker is an app for vehicle drivers in rescue operations and exercises. It transmits the vehicle's position to the INCA WFS command system so that incident command can see where the vehicle is. The app requires no account, contains no advertising and does not track you for any purpose other than the one you start yourself.
What data is processed
Once you have started transmitting, the app sends the following to the WFS server the incident belongs to:
- Position (latitude, longitude), accuracy, speed, heading and timestamp from the phone's GPS.
- The vehicle type you chose, plus the vehicle name and responsible person if you entered them. Both fields are optional.
- Battery level, so command can see when a transmitter is about to run out.
- A random transmitter id created by the app on the phone. It is not tied to the phone's hardware id or to any account.
Nothing is sent before you tap Start transmitting, and nothing after you tap Stop.
Why
The data is used solely to show the vehicle on command's map and whiteboard during an ongoing incident or exercise. The legal basis is the legitimate interest of the rescue service in leading the operation, or your consent when you take part in an exercise.
Where the data is stored and for how long
- The data goes to the server whose address is in the incident's QR code – normally inca-wfs.com, operated by INCA AB on servers within the EU, or a rescue service's own server on its local network.
- The latest position is stored in the incident's database together with the vehicle name for as long as the incident exists. The organisation that owns the incident can delete it at any time.
- The trail of positions from the last few hours is kept only in the server's memory and disappears after at most six hours or on restart.
- On the phone, your choices (vehicle type, name, responsible, last incident) and the transmitter key are stored locally so the next incident is quicker. Uninstalling the app removes all of it.
Who can see the data
Everyone with access to the incident in the command system – normally incident command and those who have received the incident link. The data is not sold, not shared with third parties and not used for marketing or profiling.
Permissions the app asks for
- Location (while using the app) – to read the vehicle's position. Transmission continues in the background while the phone is locked, which iOS shows with a blue indicator and Android with a persistent notification.
- Camera (iPhone) – only to read the incident QR code. No images are stored.
- Notifications (Android) – for the persistent notification that shows transmission is running and lets you stop it.
Your rights
You can stop transmitting at any time in the app. To have data about your vehicle removed from an incident, contact the organisation responsible for the incident, or INCA AB at the contact above. Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectification and erasure, and to lodge a complaint with the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY).
